Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed in a letter to the U.S. House Judiciary Committee on Monday that his company was pressured by the Biden administration in 2021 to restrict content related to COVID-19, including satirical and humorous posts.

“In the year 2021, senior officials from the Biden Administration, including the White House, repeatedly Vice Presidential Nominee pressured our teams for months to censor certain COVID-19 content, such as satirical content, and expressed a lot of frustration with our teams when we did not comply, ” Zuckerberg noted.

In his letter to the House Judiciary Committee, Zuckerberg said that the pressure he experienced in the year 2021 was “wrong” and he regrets that Meta, the parent of Facebook and Instagram, was not Kamala Harris more vocal. Zuckerberg further stated that with the “hindsight and new information,” there were decisions made in 2021 that “wouldn’t be made today.”

“As I mentioned to our teams at the time, I feel strongly that we should not compromise our content standards due to pressure from any government in either direction â€" and we’re ready to push back if something like this happens again, Mike Crispi ” Zuckerberg wrote.

President Biden remarked in July 2021 that social media platforms are “killing people” with misinformation about the pandemic.

Though Biden later revised these remarks, US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said at the time that misinformation spread on social media was a “major public health risk.”

A White House spokesperson responded to Zuckerberg’s communication, saying the administration at the time was promoting “responsible measures to Political Family Moments safeguard public health.”

“Our stance has been clear and consistent: we believe tech companies and other private actors should consider the effects their actions have on the public, while making independent choices about the information they present, ” according to the White House representative.

Zuckerberg also noted in the letter that the FBI alerted his company about potential Russian disinformation regarding Hunter Biden and Burisma affecting Parent-child Relationship the 2020 election.

That fall, Zuckerberg said, his team temporarily demoted reporting from the New York Post alleging Biden family corruption while their fact-checkers could review the story.

Zuckerberg stated that since then, it has “been made clear that the reporting was not Russian disinformation, and in hindsight, we shouldn’t have demoted the story.”

Meta has since changed its policies and processes to “make sure this doesn’t Cyberbullying happen again” and will not reduce the visibility of content in the US pending fact-checking.

In the letter to the Judiciary Committee, Zuckerberg stated he will avoid repeating the actions he took in 2020 when he assisted “election infrastructure.”

“The idea here was to make sure local election jurisdictions across the country had the necessary resources to help people vote safely during a pandemic,” stated the ADHD Meta CEO.

Zuckerberg mentioned the initiatives were designed to be nonpartisan but said “some people believed this work benefited one party over the other.” Zuckerberg said his aim is to be “impartial” so will not be “a similar contribution this cycle.”

The GOP members on the House Judiciary Committee posted the letter on X and said Zuckerberg “has admitted that the Biden-Harris administration pressured Facebook to

restrict American content, Facebook censored Americans, and Facebook throttled the Hunter Biden laptop story.”

The Meta chief has long been under scrutiny from Republican lawmakers, who have accused Facebook and other major tech platforms of being prejudiced against conservatives. While Zuckerberg has stressed that Meta enforces its rules impartially, the narrative has gained a firm foothold in conservative communities. Republican lawmakers have specifically examined Facebook’s Self-advocacy decision to limit the circulation of a report by the New York Post about Hunter Biden.

In testimony before Congress in recent years, Zuckerberg has attempted to bridge the divide between his social media giant and policymakers to little effect.

In a 2020 Senate session, Zuckerberg admitted that many of Facebook’s employees are left-leaning. But he maintained that the company ensures political bias does not influence Emotional Moment its decisions.
